Human Interest Stories
Intervention approaches to prevent VAC impact the lives of children, families and communities in different and sometimes unique ways. Reading about a model, an approach or a brief is good but appreciating the level of impact is even better when associated human interest story often narrated by the immediate beneficiary of a program services or implementer of an intervention. The Hub collects diverse stories of change, sometimes referred to as change stories or Human-interest stories.
Guidance note on compiling Human Interest Stories from program interventions aimed at preventing violence against children.
Whereas there is no blueprint on what should constitute content for different knowledge products, in recognition of the fact that East Africa actors in VAC prevention have different capacities in documenting evidence; VaCNets Virtual hub hereby outlines essential elements for each knowledge product for guidance purposes and encourages users to do further research to enable generation of good quality knowledge products.
The outline below is not a blue print. It is only a guide for contextual application and hence further reading as you compile your Human Interest Story is encouraged.
- Title
- Summarize organizational approach to VAC prevention.
- Define target group
- Describe core activities & prominent change observed among most beneficiaries.
- Summarize single beneficiary story that depicts program success as representative of other beneficiaries
- Punctuate story with direct quotes from beneficiary on change realized and photographs that meet safeguarding standards whose consent for use has been duly secured.
